Dundee agency helps bring iconic Tennents’ Sixes back to life

Jigsaw Media, the Dundee-based marketing, branding and web agency, has worked on the new brand identity, website and campaign assets for the revival of the Tennents’ Sixes, which was launched across Scottish Premier League clubs earlier this week.

The original Tennents’ Sixes captured the imagination of Scottish football fans during the 1980s and early 1990s, bringing the country’s biggest clubs together for a much loved indoor six-a-side tournament.

For many supporters, the tournament is remembered as a defining part of Scottish football culture – and particularly for a generation who watched the action unfold on a Sunday and Monday night on television.

Now, more than three decades after the original competition ended, the Tennents’ Sixes is being brought back.

For Jigsaw founder and managing director Craig Simpson, the project carries a particularly special significance.

“This is genuinely one of those projects that makes you incredibly proud to be involved in what you do.”

“I was a kid when the Tennents’ Sixes was around and I absolutely loved it. I remember watching it on Scotsport and looking forward to it coming around every year.

“So to go from being a kid watching the Sixes on the television to now being involved in bringing it back to life through Jigsaw is a pretty special feeling.

“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for the team because this is so much more than creating a website or a new visual identity. We’re helping to create the brand and digital experience for the return of something that a huge number of Scottish football fans have really fond memories of.”

Jigsaw was responsible for developing the new Tennents’ Sixes brand identity and visual direction, as well as designing and developing the new website and producing campaign and content assets to support the launch.

Russell Smith, CEO of Braehead Arena, said:

“The return of the Tennents’ Sixes is something we are incredibly excited about. This tournament holds a special place in Scottish football history, and from the outset we knew it was important to work with a team that shared our enthusiasm for bringing it back to life.

“Jigsaw immediately understood the challenge – respecting the heritage and nostalgia that supporters remember so fondly, while creating a fresh, modern and innovative brand that will connect with a new generation of fans.

“Their passion for the project has been evident throughout, and the quality of the work delivered across the brand identity, website and campaign assets has been outstanding.

“On behalf of everyone at Braehead Arena, the SPFL and Tennent’s, I would like to thank Craig, Keith, Mark and the entire Jigsaw team for their commitment, creativity and dynamic approach to delivering this special project.

“We are delighted with the outcome and can’t wait to welcome fans back in October for the next chapter of this iconic event.”

Craig added:

“There’s a huge amount of nostalgia attached to the Tennents’ Sixes, but what’s exciting is that it isn’t simply about recreating something from the past.

“The challenge was to respect what people remember and love about the Sixes while giving it a new identity and digital presence that feels relevant today.

“We’re absolutely delighted with where we’ve got to and huge credit must go to our web and design team – the work has been delivered to an incredibly high standard within a very tight deadline. Now, like everyone else, we’re just really excited to see it out there.”

The tournament itself will be held at Braehead Arena on 3rd & 4th October with tickets available here.
